The
newest in the series of Sonic games is in fact, not a Sonic game.
The game is based on Sonic's nemesis Shadow.
After Shadow used his escape pod after Sonic had finnished with him at the
end of Sonic Adventure 2 Shadow set off into space.
Then set many years after Sonic
Adventure 2, Shadow crash lands on an alien planet, he can't
remember a thing and there is an evil Doctor threatening to overtake
the world. This game is not a simple platform game, it is now about
taking risks and making choices. The game still has the familiar
'Collect the chaos emeralds' theme to it, and each emerald you pick
up on your journey will retrieve lost memorys. The game also has 2
modes to choose from the Light Path or the Dark Path, becuase Shadow
is neither good or bad you can choose, depending on what you choose
you can unlock new powers. The game will see some familiar faces
including Sonic!
Adding a new element to the world of Sonic is the ability to have a gun. It
looks like there are tons of guns to choose from, you may think the
game seems to be going in the Ratchet and Clank area of games. But
don't be fooled, the game has still got the Sonic feeling, speed,
loops and insane jumps that make it much more than a basic
platformer. The game is not as colourful as Sonic Heroes (as
expected) but the gameplay is on a par with Sonic Heroes. The game is
going to be a lot more interactive with the environment around you,
like picking up crates and lobbing them around. The game is also
using a new graphics engine created for the game, unlike Sonic Heores
which used the Renderware engine which isn't that good.
Shadow The Hedgehog is another multi-console game, only top games seem to
come out on all 3 consoles like Sonic Heroes did, but sometimes Sonic
Team just write for 2 consoles like Sonic
Gems Collection.
The game is good enough to encorage Sonic fans, and is good enough to
get new people to the Sonic scene into the game. The game will be
avalible 7/10/2005 on XBOX, GameCube and PlayStation 2. Allthough the
best version to get it for will of course be the XBOX version with
the GameCube version not far behind, due to their processor and
graphical power it will run a lot smoother on both than the
PlayStation 2 version.
Could we see Shadow The Hedgehog on the PC?
Sonic Team havn't said anything about a PC release yet, but Sonic Adventure DX and Heroes
both made it to the PC, maybe this will too.
