Then in 1994 the Sega Saturn was released.. There were some great Sonic games for the Saturn like Sonic R (a Sonic racing game where you can race as Sonic, Tails, Amy etc through Ruins, Race Tracks and other weird levels). There was also Sonic 3D which was also on the Mega-Drive first but this Sonic 3D was the best, with improved graphics and CD quality sound and was a bit more 3D!. But there where some games that where going to be great like Sonic Championship (Sonic The Fighters) but got Cancelled at the last minute. Sonic Jam was released in 1997 and this was a collection of the classic Mega-Drive games and also included a Sonic 3D adventure game. There were also other Sonic Team games avalible for the Saturn like Burning Rangers and Nights. Moving on to 1998-1999, the lanch of a new SEGA console The DREAMCAST, the PlayStation was as big as ever about this time, but when the Dreamcast came out it didn't do to well, people resorted to the PlayStation, plus early Dreamcast's overheated and broke. The Dreamcast was a lot more powerful than the PlayStation and the Saturn, and was the first console to have Online features, but the Dreamcast didn't get the good games like the PlayStation did. For the Dreamcast there where some great Sonic Team games like Chu Chu Rocket (was the game that came with the Dreamcast) Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Phantacy Star Online, Samba De Amigo and in November 2001 SEGA knew that the Dreamcast wasn't doing well (The PSone wasn't either because of the PS2) so they decided what was best, pack the Dreamcast up. January 2002 SEGA signed contracts with Nnintendo, Microsoft and SONY so they could bring out there games on the GamCube, GameBoy Advance, XBOX and the popular PS2. Sonic Adventure 2:BATTLE was a big shock to the world becuase it was realesed on a Nintendo console. As for the GBA they brought out Sonic Advance. But at this time the PS2 hadn't got any Sonic games, insted SEGA brought out games from the Dreamcast like: Head Hunter, Virtua Tennis 2, Rez and lots of other games. 2003 - Sonic Adventure DX was released on the GameCube, it was a remake of Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast with slighly improved grahics and lots of extras like GameGear games. The game was poor, it had a terrible frame-rate, that was unplayable for most people. The sequel to Sonic Advence came out this year and Sonic Mega Collection made it's way onto the GameCube, this was another classic Sonic games collection (like Sonic Jam). 2004 saw Sonic The Hedgehog makes his multi-console debut with Sonic Heroes. He had finnaly made it onto the PlayStation 2 and XBOX. The game did very well: Gamers Choice on the GameCube, Classics on the XBOX and it went Platinum on the PlayStation 2. 2005 - Sonic Mega Collection Plus was released on the PS2 and XBOX, basicly the same as Sonic Mega Collection for the GameCube but this had once again more extras. This is also the year Sonic makes his Nintendo DS debut with Sonic Rush. More debuts also to come this year with Shadow The Hedgehog, he gets his own game on the GameCube, XBOX and PlayStation 2. |
